What Do People Want to Know About Hammer and Stain Shrewsbury
Hammer & Stain Shrewsbury was founded by LeAnn Richards and her husband and opened its doors on South Main Street in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, in August 2022. LeAnn serves as the studio’s primary instructor and artisan, bringing her creativity, passion, and personal touch to each experience.
As a true family-owned business, Hammer & Stain Shrewsbury is a family affair. LeAnn’s husband and their two daughters are regularly involved, helping create the warm and welcoming atmosphere guests experience when they walk through the doors.
Built with the local community in mind, the studio was created to be an independent creative space where people can gather, connect, and create—offering a personal alternative to the corporate franchise experience.
No experience is needed! Every workshop at Hammer & Stain Shrewsbury is instructor-led, with LeAnn and her team guiding you through the creative process step-by-step from start to finish.
All materials, tools, and instruction are provided, so all you need to bring is yourself and a willingness to have fun. Our studio is intentionally designed to be welcoming to everyone—from complete beginners picking up a paintbrush for the first time to seasoned makers looking for their next creative experience.
At Hammer & Stain, the goal is to enjoy the process, not stress about perfection. If you can follow along, have fun, and are willing to try something new, you have everything you need to create something you'll be proud to take home.
The studio works with a wide variety of creative materials, including natural wood, resin, ceramics, textiles, glass, and more. Many of our signature projects feature natural wood in the form of planks, rounds, and pallets, giving each finished piece its own unique character.
Guests can personalize their projects by choosing from more than 42 paint colors and 9 stain options. Because we work with real, natural wood, no two pieces are exactly alike. Knots, cracks, chips, and other natural imperfections are all part of the character and charm that make each handmade piece unique.
Projects range from framed signs and doormats to mosaic lamps, watercolor paintings, seasonal décor, and so much more. Every workshop is prepared in advance, with materials, tools, and supplies selected specifically for the projects being created.
Located in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, Hammer & Stain Shrewsbury proudly welcomes guests from throughout the region, including communities from York, PA to Hunt Valley, MD.
Looking to bring the creative experience to you? Off-site mobile workshops are available for groups of 15 or more. Travel within 20 miles of the studio is included at no additional cost. For events located between 20 and 60 miles from the studio, a $40 travel fee applies.
Mobile workshops are a great option for corporate team-building events, school fundraisers, private celebrations, and large group gatherings. We bring the materials, instruction, and creative experience directly to your location—so your group can focus on making, laughing, and creating together.
For private events and parties, all guests must register at least 7 days before the scheduled session. This gives our team time to prepare the materials, supplies, and personalized project components needed for each guest.
Children’s birthday parties require a minimum of 3 weeks’ advance notice to book. However, if you have a specific date in mind, we strongly recommend booking 6 to 8 weeks in advance to help ensure your preferred date is available.
Planning ahead allows us to have everything prepared and ready for your group, so when you arrive, all you have to do is relax, have fun, and enjoy creating together.
Hammer & Stain Shrewsbury is independently owned and locally operated by LeAnn Richards and her husband. While the Hammer & Stain name brings the recognition of a well-loved creative brand, the Shrewsbury location is personally managed by LeAnn and her family.
That means guests enjoy the quality and creative experience they expect from the Hammer & Stain name, combined with the warmth, flexibility, and personal attention that come from a family-owned, community-focused studio.
This isn’t a corporate experience—it’s a local one. Every guest, event, and project matters personally to the people behind the studio.
